So it turns out i’m not colorblind…

Leave your thoughts

so basically, I thought I wasn’t colorblind, but how could I actually tell? on my work experience application form I stated I wasn’t colorblind, now it turns out i’m not, but I had no way of knowing if I was or not because i’d never actually been tested, and in actually fact being red-to-green colorblind isn’t as black or white as being fully colorblind or even blind, if you pardon the pun. It’s okay to be colorblind, as long as you know you are, now being colorblind affects one in eight men! this is quiet a surprising statistic considering it...

When is a spectrum not a spectrum?

Leave your thoughts

There are 7 colours in the spectrum because of Newton’s book, Optics. He chose the 7 colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) out of a belief that that there was a connection between the colours, the days of the week and the musical notes (proposed by Greek teachers). However, some claim there are in fact 6 colours in the spectrum due to the fact indigo and violet are so close to each other.

It looks alright to me…

Leave your thoughts

Perhaps it does, but is it right? How is your colour perception? How is your hue discrimination? Are you colour blind? You won’t really know unless you are tested regularly using such equipment as the Ishihara Tests and the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test etc. Get this right and you stand a good chance of if it looks right, then it actually is right!

Ah, daylight…

Leave your thoughts

Ah, but which daylight, D50, D65 or D75, or any other illuminant that may be specified, such as TL84, CWF, TL83, U30, A, U35, F etc… Make sure that you use the right illuminant and you are two parts out of three towards getting it right!

It’s a grey day…

Leave your thoughts

Grey is grey right? Wrong! 3 examples are G5574, Munsell N5 and Munsell N7, all used on the interior surfaces of lightboxes / viewing booths and specified by various organisations. They are not all the same and you may make the wrong decision if you have the wrong colour, beware and get your grey right!
